Amanda and Chris Bernier have served the residents of Madison for years, working side by side as firefighters and emergency medical first responders. And now they need our help.
Amanda, a member of the North Madison Volunteer Fire Company, our sister department who serves the northern end of town, was recently diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), only days after she and her husband received the joyous news that they would be expecting their first child – a baby girl.
Diagnosed with the most aggressive form of ALS, a progressive and deadly neurodegenerative disease that causes the deterioration of motor neurons, Amanda is wheelchair bound and needs our help as she begins the fight of her live and that of her unborn baby’s. Living in a 780 square-foot home, Amanda and Chris will need to make modifications to their house to make living more comfortable, in addition to securing medical equipment, a wheelchair van and funds for future medical bills – all which we can help provide with donations.
