Overview/Operations
Madison Hose Company # 1 is an all-volunteer fire department serving the town of Madison, Connecticut since 1907. One of two fire companies in the town, Madison Hose is responsible for the protection of the entire southern portion of Madison including downtown, Interstate 95, Hammonasset State Park, Northeast Corridor rail line, and 7 miles of shoreline along the Long Island Sound. Our first due response area is predominantly residential development, but it also encompasses sections of commerical development, a five-story waterfront hotel, multiple assisted living facilities, apartment buildings, and schools.
Our dedicated volunteers are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Last year, the 35 active members of Madison Hose Company # 1 responded to more than 600 calls for service including structure fires, motor vehicle accidents, hazardous material incidents, water rescues, carbon monoxide emergencies, automatic fire alarms, and much more. In addition to protecting our town, Madison Hose provides mutual aid to our neighboring towns, as requested, including RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) response for structure fires .
Madison Hose Company # 1 is fortunate to be well equipped while responding to emergencies, using a modern fleet of apparatus including a class A pumper, a rescue-pumper, a 3000-gallon tanker-pumper, a 100’ aerial platform, a rescue boat, as well as utility and chief's vehicles.
Our dedicated firefighters are trained to meet the national standards of Firefighter 1 at a minimum, though many of our members have far exceeded this level of training. We meet weekly on Thursday nights at the firehouse on Boston Post Road for training and to attend to the business affairs of the company.
Members of Madison Hose Company # 1 take great pride in our continued service to our community. We are hopeful you will never need our services; however, should the need arise, we will be there for you.
