Last night at approximately 8:18 PM Madison Hose Company # 1 was dispatched for a possible motor vehicle fire at the I-95 Northbound rest area. Initial calls to 911 reported a pick-up truck with blue smoke coming from the engine compartment by the gas pumps.
Captain Carroll, Car 201, the first fire unit on scene, reported a fully involved vehicle fire.
Arriving units made a quick offensive attack and had the fire knocked down within minutes, containing the fire to the vehicle of origin and saving the car in tow from significant damage. The incident was placed under control at 8:30 PM.
Quick action on the part of the vehicle's operator; who moved the vehicle away from the pumps as soon as initial smoke was detected, helped to mitigate a potentially very serious situation. |
